Robert Armstrong was born and grew up in San Francisco. His interest

in art extends back to his childhood there, and is influenced by the

beauty of the area.

Robert received his A.B. from U.C. - Berkeley. He as also studied at

C.C.S.F., the Massachusetts College of Art and at the Hochschule der

Kunst in Berlin, in the former West Germany.

Robert's primary interests have been in realistic and figurative artwork.

He has drawn and painted portraits, the human figure, cats, flowers,

and most recently fruits and vegetables. In speaking about his art,

Robert says,

My work pursues the essential nature of the objects which I paint. I attempt to combine craft and feeling in seeking beauty. Vivid, saturated color harmonies are particularly central to this search.

Robert's work has been exhibited locally and internationally and is in

numerous private collections. He is available for consultation at the

address and phone number above.

Watercolor Monotypes

Monotypes are singular, unique, hand-done prints. My monotypes are

done with Caran Dache watercolor crayons printed on Plexiglas

printmaking plates. When the painted image is dry, it is transferred

onto a piece of dampened Lana printmaking paper upon being rolled

through a Griffin single-roller press. Final additions are made with

brush and crayon, usually while the print is still damp. The plate may

be used again, but the image must be painted anew for each print.

Only one unique monotype may be obtained from each painting.

Archival framing materials are then used to preserve the monotype

and enhance its longevity.
